So we are here to solve all your queries about this examination. And Civil Service Exam popularly known as ‘IAS exam’. Syllabus for individual subjects in IAS mains is provided on this website.So the Civil Services Preliminary exam included in 2 compulsory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies paper1 and General Studies Paper2). And the question will be of multiple-choice, objective type. And this marks will be not counted for final ranking, but this is just for qualification for the main exam.
But the commission will draw a list of candidates to be selected for main Civil Service Examination based on the minimum marks of 33% in General Studies paper2 of civil service prelim exam and total marks of General Studies paper1 of Civil Service prelim exam as may be created by the commission.The IAS mains exam comprises nine theory papers and marks in seven of those papers are taken into consideration for preparing the final merit list. The other two papers, English and Indian Language, are qualifying in nature (candidates have to score 25% or above to be eligible for selection). The candidates who score above the cut-off in the first stage (Prelims) of the IAS exam only will be eligible for the Mains. While only objective-type (MCQs) questions are asked in Prelims, the subjective Mains exam requires a deeper understanding of the topics.
Serious IAS aspirants must already be aware that UPSC Civil Services Exam 2023 calendar (latest) states that the Prelims will be held on 28th May 2023, and the Mains will commence from September 2023, onwards. However, the UPSC Mains 2022 were held from 16th September 2022, onwards. This gives enough time to prepare the comprehensive exam syllabus.Every subject paper time limit is for only two hours. Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.But every paper time limit is for two hours. There will be 80 questions. But marks of this paper are decided by the toppers of the preliminary exam. And this paper is only qualifying in nature. Interview is of 275 marks The questions asked will be on matters of general interest. The objective of the Interview/Personality Test is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The Interview/Personality Test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. In broad terms this is really an assessment of not only intellectual qualities but also social traits and interest in current affairs.
